Finnish spirits named among Nordics’ best

The vodka celebrates the life and art of the world-famous artist Tom of Finland.

The Guardian has listed Tom of Finland Organic Vodka and Kyrö Malt Rye Whiskey among five regional spirits worth trying.

Produced by One Eyed Spirits, the Finnish distillery, Tom of Finland Organic Vodka was named “a fantastic product” by the UK daily in a recent assessment of Nordic spirits.

“Very, smooth, very pure – you get a real sense of the base grains (wheat and rye),” the publication wrote.

The vodka takes its name from the iconic Finnish artist and has received the blessing of the Tom of Finland Foundation.

A positive appraisal of Kyrö Distillery’s Malt Rye Whisky also featured in the article.

“This award-winning Finnish rye whisky has the wonderfully full flavour of freshly baked rye bread.”

Both distilleries have received ample global attention in recent years, with Kyrö’s Napue Gin also named the world’s best of its kind back in 2015.

Much has been happening recently in Finnish beverage production, with an emphasis on the creative sourcing of ingredients. Local brewhouse Maku Brewing launched an ale made from malted broad beans, and Ainoa Winery continues to win plaudits for its growing range of berry wines.

“We want people to appreciate the Finnish berries as much as people in Finland do,” said Aino Winery’s David Cohen. “People who come here, they're astonished by the berries, but they're not widely known outside of Finland, and they should be.”
