The Finnish capital, Helsinki, has secured a spot among Europe's top 30 biggest startup hubs in 2023.

Helsinki has been listed in 11th position in EU-Startups’ ranking of Europe's top startup hubs. According to the website, the city has enjoyed a recent surge in new startups and funding activities, underlining its dynamic growth. Aside from a robust presence in the gaming industry, Helsinki has also seen significant growth in the health and cleantech sectors.

EU-Startups assessed altogether 150 European cities based initially on website traffic, and conducted a subsequent analysis of the number of startups founded in each city in the past three years and their recent funding activity. While not a definitive ranking, the list nonetheless offers insights into the local startup hub’s visibility and digital maturity.

EU-Startups also underlined the fact that the globally renowned startup event Slush is held in Helsinki.

This news is just the latest in a long line of global recognition for the local startup ecosystem. Finnish startups received the most venture capital per capita in Europe a few years back, and Finland was deemed an ideal test market and springboard for startups looking to enter the European and global markets.

In recent years, Helsinki has also been named the best city for work-life balance and among the top three for its technological provision. Furthermore, the overall quality of life in the Finnish capital received considerable praise by Monocle magazine.
