The City of Helsinki has joined Dealroom, a platform for bringing together and promoting data sharing between startups, investors, incubators, accelerators and higher-education institutions.

Produced by the Netherlands-based Dealroom.co and NewCo Helsinki, the platform features a continuously updated database offering a comprehensive view of the startup ecosystem in Greater Helsinki.

“We opened the service in the summer, and it is developing alongside the ecosystem,” said Tommo Koivusalo, head of unit at NewCo Helsinki. “Open, up-to-date and sufficient enough data on our vibrant ecosystem helps both locals and international actors to discover opportunities in the Helsinki region.”

The free and open platform presently consists of over 2 000 startups and other actors. Its recently listed financing rounds include rounds by Choicely, HMD Global, Quuppa, Solar Foods, Swappie, Varjo and Wolt.

The Dealroom in Helsinki coalesces data from almost 20 startup ecosystems in Europe, with a view to not only facilitating comparisons and co-operation between the ecosystems, but also providing news from the startup industry.

The Finnish capital joined the service partly because of commitment to do everything in its power to help the local startup scene to withstand the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic. Another example of its commitment is NewCo Accelerator, a newly launched accelerator targeted at promising startups struggling to secure external financing in the current formidable circumstance.
