Finnish venture capital firm Innovestor has closed the first round of investment in its new fund, which focuses exclusively on early-stage B2B industrial technology companies in the Nordics and the Baltics. A forerunner in the region, the fund will offer pre-series A to Series A investments to companies involved in industry 4.0 and sectors benefiting from the fourth industrial revolution, such as smart cities, cyber, physical security and digital energy. The fund will be capped at 100 million euros and make its first investments as early as the second quarter of 2020.
The University of Turku has received over 520 000 euros from leading US-based diabetes research foundation JDRF for its ongoing project on pathogen-associated molecular patterns. The project is part of the national Type 1 Diabetes Prediction and Prevention (DIPP) study, and seeks to understand the role innate immunity has in the development of type 1 diabetes to reveal key insights into the chronic disease. Type 1 diabetes is more common among Finns than any other people in the world in proportion to the population.
Finnish software firm Tecnotree has been selected as a strategic partner for the digital transformation of MTN, the leading mobile telecommunications services provider across Africa and the Middle East. Tecnotree will start the collaboration with MTN Ghana by deploying its Digital BSS Suite 5, a complete stack of digital solutions, to help to accelerate the operator’s business growth, improve customer experience, and increase the agility and operational efficiency of IT systems.
Finnish family-owned Classic Pizza Restaurant has won the Copenhagen’s Best Pizza 2020 award in a poll organised by the travel-oriented OpdagDanmark website. The competition finds out the best products and services are in the Danish restaurant scene, with this year’s respondents voting Classic Pizza as Copenhagen’s best by some margin. The award is an important recognition for the Finnish pizzeria, it having only operated two years in the highly competitive Danish market.
