DAILY BRIEF: Global growth, mining sector bustle, games-based teamwork and a solar powered electric car

Peikko Group grows globally, Metso is busy in the mining sector, Double Star teams up with Huuuge Games on its first title, and Valoe helps to develop Sono Motors’ solar-powered electric car.
Finnish company Peikko Group has established a new office in Frauenfeld, Switzerland, and opened a new factory in Ras Al Khaimah, the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Having acquired the product rights of the ATLANT composite columns developed in Switzerland, Peikko set up the office to support growth particularly in Austria and Switzerland. The factory in the UAE, on the other hand, will manufacture both precast connections and composite beams and increases Peikko’s presence in the Middle East. The opening ceremony was attended by the ruler of Ras Al Khaimah and other high-ranked local figures, as well as the Finnish ambassador to the UAE.
Finnish company Metso will supply its energy efficient Vertimill grinding technology to PT Agincourt Resources’ Martabe gold mine in Sumatra, Indonesia. Metso won the competitive tender for what is to become the largest grinding mill of its kind in Indonesia with a bid with the lowest total cost of ownership. The industrial giant has also celebrated the first pour event of its greenfield foundry project in Vadodara, India. The factory will increase its casting wears capacity for the mining and aggregate industries.
New Finnish game studio Double Star has teamed up with international games developer and publisher Huuuge Games on its first title, Bow Land. The free-to-play mobile action game mixes rogue-like elements with exploration, fast-paced combat and appealing visuals. Bow Land is available in selected countries during its soft-launch phase and will premiere in others in the coming months with many new levels and features. Double Star games was founded by Finnish mobile gaming veterans Tuomas Erikoinen and Petri Räsänen.
Finnish company Valoe has become a technology partner for Sono Motors’ Sion, a self-charging electric car with integrated solar cells. Valoe joined the project already in 2018 to co-develop the car’s custom-fit solar modules, which generate electricity in sunlight without any emissions or costs. Sono Motors is to manufacture the Sion in a former SAAB factory in Sweden, with plans to churn out 260 000 cars during the eight-year lifetime of the manufacturing unit. The German sustainable car manufacturer has over 10 000 pre-orders for the Sion.
