Upcoming films, festival wins and luxury hotels

It has been a busy week for the Finnish film and TV industry. Klaus Härö’s feature won in Chicago, Finnish producers showcased upcoming TV series at Mipcom, and J-P Valkeapää’s new film will soon premiere in Tallinn. Klaus Härö’s film My Sailor, My Love won over the audience at the Chicago International Film Festival. The film, which revolves around the strained relationship between a retired sea captain and his daughter, received the festival’s Audience Award for International Feature. Yle has the news.

Espoo has been named among three finalists at the European Capital of Innovation Awards. The European Innovation Council supports the prize, which “recognises the role cities play in shaping the local innovation ecosystem and promoting game-changing innovation”. The winner will be announced on 7 December 2022.

Looking for a luxury stay in Finland? The World Luxury Hotel Awards has just announced its 2022 winners, and the Finland Convention Bureau reveals seven hotels made the Finnish cut. These are Arctic TreeHouse, HAAWE Boutique Apart Hotel, Hotel Kakola, Sokos Hotels Kimmel, Seurahuone Kotka, Lahti Seurahuone and Torni Tampere.

Finnish producers have unveiled six new TV shows at Mipcom in Cannes. Audiovisual Producers Finland and its partners used the TV industry event to spotlight a wide variety of upcoming series, such as “a thriller about a data leak, ‘cosy’ crime series and even animation inspired by unboxing videos”, writes Variety

Santa, here we come. Rovaniemi, the home of Santa Claus Village, will get seven new flight connections from European cities for this winter season. The Barents Observer has the full story.

The first play based on the original Moomin comics from the 1940s is currently on show in Helsinki. The Moomin website took a behind-the-scenes look at the play, Crisis and Catastrophe in Moominvalley, and learnt about its social satire and why it is performed entirely in black and white.

Alan Wake Remastered is now available on Nintendo Switch. According to GameRant, the game’s release was a surprise but a positive one, as it allows Nintendo fans to “experience one of the best cult classic horror games”.

Angry Birds flies to Barcelona. Rovio, the company behind the popular mobile game franchise, has announced plans to locate its eighth studio in the Spanish city. According to Mobidictum, the Barcelona offices will collaborate as equals with the company’s headquarters in Finland. 


Finnish packaging company Huhtamäki has joined forces with Milliken & Company to develop a new tube material for personal care products. The partners use a mono-material laminate to improve the tubes’ barrier properties and make them more recyclable, writes Premium Beauty News
