Hatch continues to expand 5G gaming

Hatch is currently available in select European countries and Japan.Hatch

Finnish cloud gaming service Hatch has begun co-operation with the American communications services company Sprint to bring what it calls the “Netflix of gaming” to the US market.

The deal will enable users in the US to experience mobile gaming in the omnipresent world of 5G this spring, when Sprint is planning to launch the next-generation network in select cities across the country.

“Hatch is an outstanding partner because with their technology we’ll be able to show how 5G will literally change the game,” said Bryan Fries, vice president at Sprint, in a release. “For the first time, gamers on Sprint 5G will be able to access a huge library of games and play instantly without waiting to download or update games.”

Earlier this year, Hatch closed a strategic partnership with the Japanese mobile operator NTT DOCOMO to establish a foothold in what is the birthplace of gaming and currently the third-largest market for the industry. The US deal signals penetration to another market of strategic importance, with North America representing roughly 25 per cent of annual gaming industry revenue.

“We can’t wait to give Sprint 5G customers a great gaming experience – and a great consumer use case for the power of 5G,” commented Nick Thomas, vice president at Hatch.

With large-scale 5G networks still being built around the world, the first of the technology’s applications are set to go live this year. Hatch is an intriguing examples in the 130 billion-US dollar gaming industry, being set to face competition from the likes of Google, Amazon, Microsoft and Apple.
