Stora Enso’s lignin-based product stacks up awards
The Finnish renewable materials company’s Lineo by Stora Enso product has won the Innovative Product Award 2018 by the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE).
The product can be used as a renewable replacement for many fossil-based materials in an increasing range of areas, with the judges for the IChemE award deeming Stora Enso the winner “for creating a new bio-based, sustainable material to replace fossil fuels used in coatings and adhesives”.
Stora Enso released the lignin-based product earlier this year. It has since been recognised with several awards, including the Bio-Based Product of the Year at the Bio-Based World News Innovation Awards 2018.
“Lineo is one of Stora Enso’s key renewable solutions and we are proud that it has, once again, been recognised as an important product by top chemical industry representatives,” saidMarkus Mannström, executive vice president for biomaterials at Stora Enso. “Lineo has many potential uses across diverse industries and promotes the optimised use of natural and bio-based resources.”
Stora Enso has been producing lignin on an industrial scale since 2015 at its Sunila Mill in Finland. With a yearly capacity of 50 000 tonnes, it is the largest kraft lignin producer in the world.
