Finnish startup Jospak’s sustainable food packaging solution has won a WorldStar 2019 Award in the WorldStar Competition organised by the World Packaging Organisation (WPO).

Jospak has developed a board-based tray packaging suitable for diverse food products, which contains up to 85 per cent less plastic than its plastic alternatives.

The distinguished WorldStar Competition has been organised since 1970 and only accepts entries that have been recognised in a major national or regional competition. Jospak secured its place after bagging a ScanStar Award earlier this year.

“Receiving the WorldStar Award means recognition for the hard work that we have done to come up with this product,” said Tarja Heikkilä, managing director of Jospak. “We are positive that this award will make our packaging solutions more known [in] international markets.”

The winners were picked from among 319 packaging projects from 35 countries by a judging panel consisting of WPO country representatives and one representative from the International Packaging Press Organisation.

The WorldStar Competition award ceremony will be organised in May 2019 in Prague, the Czech Republic.
