JAMK ramps up education co-op with Kazakhstan
Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences (JAMK) has started its second master’s degree programme in nursing with the Kazakh Medical University. A total of 20 participants have been chosen for the programme, and they will eventually obtain a degree from both institutions.
The cooperation agreement between JAMK and the Kazakh Medical University of Continuing Education (KazMUCE) was signed by rector Jussi Halttunen and rector-chairman of the board Zhumagali Ismailov. The degree will consist of online courses and contact learning in Almaty, Kazakhstan for 20 Kazakh students. It will also feature pedagogical studies, to be organised in Finland, which will qualify students to become a teacher.
Previous experiences with the degree programme have proven valuable, especially in terms of the digital and cooperative elements of the courses.
“There is a broad spectrum of digital learning tools being developed in Kazakhstan at the moment,” explainsJohanna Heikkilä, senior advisor at JAMK. “A Finnish master’s degree in particular, coupled with pedagogical components where students get to experiment and experience, supports the desired progress.”
The education offers considerable added value to Kazakhstan because the teaching language is English, which enhances the abilities of students to work abroad and access the international community of healthcare professionals.
The programme is a part of a World Bank-funded development project and an agreement between a consortium of Finnish universities, led by JAMK, and the Kazakhstan health authority, signed in January.
