Five Finnish firms land significant global orders

First up is KONE, which has won orders for three metro projects in cities around China. The Finnish company will supply hundreds of lifts and escalators to the Changsha Metro Line 5, Xiamen Metro Line 2 and Nanning Metro Line 3, all due to begin trial operations in 2019.

Next in line is Konecranes, which has received an order from the Georgia Ports Authority for 10 more Konecranes RTG cranes. This increases the fleet at Garden City Terminal in the Port of Savannah to 156 Konecranes RTGs.

Then onto Wärtsilä, which is strengthening the maritime startup ecosystem in collaboration with PIER71, an industry-wide acceleration programme set up by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore and the National University of Singapore. Wärtsilä’s role in the collaboration will mainly be to act as a mentor for maritime startups, and it will also bridge startup communities of Singapore and Europe.

Next up is Valmet, which will supply a batch cooking plant for Burgo Ardennes pulp mill in Virton, Belgium, for an undisclosed sum. The start-up of the cooking plant is slated for the beginning of 2020.

Valmet has also received an order for a multifuel power boiler and a flue gas cleaning system from Air Water & Energia Power Onahama Corporation in Japan. The boiler will generate a stable power supply and reduce CO2 emissions at the Onahama plant located in Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture, Japan. The value of this type of order is typically around 40 million euros.

Finally to Pöyry, which has been awarded the engineer services assignment for the Kosova e RE power plant project in Kosovo, in a joint venture with Ekonerg. The 500MW coal-fired power plant project is designed according to the latest European standards and will replace the old Kosova A coal plant, which is considered one of the biggest polluting power plants in Europe and subject to frequent outages.
