Finnish short film to premiere at Cannes
The Tiger (Tiikeri), a short film written and directed by Mikko Myllylahti, is part of the line-up of the International Critics’ Week at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival.
Only 10 of the thousands of short-film submissions are selected for the official programme of the International Critics’ Week, which, being organised now for the 57th time, is the oldest non-competitive section of the Cannes Film Festival.
The Tiger is also in the running for both the Canal+ Award and the Leica Cine Discovery Prize.
“It feels absolutely great to have a newly completed short film premiere at such an esteemed and traditional festival,” says Myllylahti, who penned the screenplay for the Un Certain Regard-winner of the 2016 Cannes Festival, The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki (Hymyilevä Mies).
His new short film portrays the unpredictable events of one winter evening: A father returns home inebriated and brandishes a shotgun after a family dispute, forcing his son, Tiikeri, and wife, Ritvis, to flee outside into the deafening silence. Tiikeri, however, feels compelled to go back inside to see what has transpired and take his first steps towards independence.
The 71st Cannes Film Festival takes place between 8 and 19 May.
