Finnish companies Nokia, Valmet, Neste and Wärtsilä have signed long-term partnership agreements and supplied technology and services worldwide.

First up is Nokia, which has completed a live network trial in Poland with French multinational telecommunications company Orange to test cloud-optimised radio access network (RAN) technology for the eventual roll-out of Orange’s 5G cloud architecture.

The Finnish telecommunications giant has also signed a five-year deal with HCL Technologies, which will see HCL assist Nokia in transforming and modernising its IT infrastructure and applications landscape.

Next in line is Valmet, which will supply turbine automation technology to the Heleneholmsverket (HVK) combined heat and power plant in Malmö, Sweden. The plant is owned and operated by Malmö’s main heating energy provider, E.ON.

Valmet will also supply an off-line multinip calendar for UPM Nordland Papier’s Dörpen mill in Germany. An order of this type is typically worth around 20–30 million euros.

The Finnish company has also signed a long-term maintenance service agreement for Asia Symbol (Shandong) Pulp and Paper’s board machines and paper mill in China. Valmet was previously responsible for manufacturing the equipment for the mill.

Then on to Neste, which is collaborating with Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) to reduce air pollution, particularly CO2 emissions, from aircraft at the airport. The solutions will include using Neste MY Renewable Jet Fuel while exploring other decarbonising solutions for aviation, such as renewable de-icing, paints and plastics.

Finally to Wärtsilä, a Finnish technology group that has signed a long-term technology and commercial partnership agreement with Hyundai Motor Group to maximise the use of Hyundai’s second-life electric vehicle batteries. The partnership will target the growing energy storage market and utilise Wärtsilä’s existing customer and channel networks across the world for commercialisation.
