Finnish documentary to bow in Sweden
Finnish director Virpi Suutari’s new documentary, Entrepreneur (Yrittäjä), is to have its world premiere at the prestigious Göteborg Film Festival in February.
Alongside its debut screening, the film is also in the running for a prestigious Dragon Award (Best Nordic Documentary), along with seven other documentaries. The Göteborg Film Festival is the most renowned international festival of its kind in the Nordics, and is held from 26 January to 5 February.
Suutari’s latest documentary is produced by Joonas Berghäll and Satu Majava from the Finnish production company Oktober.
“It has been an honour to work on this film with a Finnish documentary legend,” producer Berghäll says in a press release. “A world premiere at the Göteborg Film Festival is a really magnificent start for Entrepreneur‘s festival circuit. I’m eagerly looking forward to the film’s premiere in Finland in March.”
Entrepreneur is a mildly comic take on the spirit and zeal of entrepreneurship, and follows two companies with two opposing approaches to working life in Finland. One is a modern entrepreneur following global trends and adapting the latest technology, while the other has a more traditional approach to entrepreneurship in an area of Finland where change moves slower.
Suutari is one of Finland’s most renowned documentary directors, with two Jussi Awards to her name as well as many international accolades.
The film will roll out in Finnish cinemas on 23 March. The Göteborg Film Festival also hosted another notable Finnish release last year, with Tom of Finland selected as the opening film of the festival.
