Fazer Sirkkaleipä has been awarded a Bronze Lion at the annual Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.

Fazer’s cricket bread won the Bronze Lion in the Sustainable Development Goal section of the competition, under the Responsible Consumption and Production category. It also reached the finals in the Food & Drink category.

The Finnish food industry giant introduced the world’s first insect bread to grocery stores last November, after a ban on selling insects as food was dropped in Finland. Fazer Sirkkaleipä went on to make headlines around the world after its launch and has picked up several awards and prizes since then.

“As a major operator in the industry, our actions also set an example for others to follow,” comments Markus Hellström, managing director of Fazer Bakeries. “Food production has an enormous effect on the environment and society.”

Cannes Lions is the world’s largest annual marketing competition, and this year there were more than 32 000 entries in the different categories of the competition.
