Aalto’s new programme bags almost EUR 3 million

SECCLO students will also become members of HAIC – Helsinki-Aalto Center for Information Security.Aalto University

The European Commission has granted 2.9 million-euro funding for Aalto University’s master’s programme in Security and Cloud Computing (SECCLO).

SECCLO is a successor to the master’s programme in Security and Mobile Computing, which ran for ten years until 2015. SECCLO focuses on cloud computing and information security, responding to the demand for professional engineers in the field.

The Erasmus Mundus funding includes 61 scholarships for outstanding students for two-year studies in the programme. A total of 38 programmes were selected out of 122 proposals.

The first year of SECCLO is organised by Aalto University, and the second year is completed at one of the consortium partner universities in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Estonia or France. The consortium also includes companies and research centres that offer thesis positions, summer jobs and internships. Graduating students will receive a double degree.

“The emphasis on combining strong security knowledge with hands-on R&D skills in a specific technical area, cloud computing, is a special characteristic of SECCLO,” explains professor Tuomas Aura, director of SECCLO, in a release.

The application period to the programme begins next month.
