Finnish video call service Tellybean is looking to expand with a new iOS app, and is gathering speed after closing an Invesdor crowdfunding campaign.

Tellybean raised over 510 000 euros via its Invesdor crowdfunding campaign, which is in addition to the 650 000 euro in angel investments it raised last summer.

Originally developed with less technology savvy people in mind, or ‘late adopters’ as the industry calls them, the Tellybean video call service launched on the Android TV platform in 2015, before co-operation ensued with Sony and Phillips, and a TV app was launched for Samsung and LG.

To close in on its strategic target of being available on all major platforms, Tellybean has now developed an app for iOS, which will be launched publicly after approval from the App Store. Just as with Android phones, Tellybean also looks to turn iPhones into wireless webcams to use for the video chats.

“It has been a busy past few months for Tellybean,” says company CEO and co-founder Cami Hongell. “Developing on new platforms is always tricky, but I am extremely proud of our team. We are now making Tellybean calls on new TV platforms and on iOS devices.”
