Aalto and Yale universities have launched an open online course called Decarbonize Design, Finnish audio pioneer FLEXOUND has secured an investment, ABB’s factory in Helsinki is piloting a world-first industrial 5G AI-application, and Citycon’s Iso Omena shopping centre has been awarded as the best in the Nordics.

Citycon’s Iso Omena in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area has been chosen as the Best Nordic Shopping Centre of 2019 by the Nordic Council of Shopping Centres (NCSC). The award was presented in Stockholm on Tuesday and is given to a shopping centre that has achieved something extraordinary during the past year and can be seen as an inspiration for the whole industry. A large extension project was completed at Iso Omena in 2017, and its offering now includes more than 200 shops and services.

Industrial 5G AI-pilot in ABB’s Finnish factory

The world’s first industrial 5G AI-application has been deployed in the robot-assisted assembly line at multinational ABB’s AC Drives factory in Helsinki, Finland. The pilot project done in co-operation between ABB, Telia and Atostek, aims to break ground for new industrial AI solutions. The piloted solution supports the assembly workers with quality control by providing real-time feedback with the help of video, a wireless 5G-connection and AI features.

Aalto and Yale Universities promote low-carbon construction

The architecture schools of Aalto and Ivy League university Yale have jointly launched an open and free-of-charge online course called Decarbonize Design, in connection with the World Circular Economy Forum. The material is globally accessible and targeted at anyone working in constructed environments, such as designers, architects, engineers, material manufacturers, construction companies and policy makers. The course includes video lectures and templates for teachers, with a guidebook scheduled for release in the fall.

The Finnish company’s trademarked FLEXOUND Augmented Audio adds a sense of touch to an audio-visual listening experience by combining high-quality audio with physical sound wave vibration. FLEXOUND looks to speed up international growth with the financing, especially in the automotive, aviation, and cinema industries.
