The Angry Birds Movie was released last Friday in 74 markets and took the number one position in 37 of them.

Finland-based Rovio Entertainment and Sony Pictures’ The Angry Birds Movie has set the record May opening for an original animated film grossing 43 million US dollars.

The movie’s top markets so far:
Russia USD 5.7M
UK USD 3.0M
Germany USD 2.9M
Mexico USD 2.9M
Brazil USD 2.7M

After the first weekend the top grossing markets of the hugely popular mobile game franchise feature adaptation have been in Russia, followed by the UK, Germany, Mexico and Brazil.

According to deadline.com, the full-length animation topped the box office take of 2014’s The Lego Movie by 20 per cent in the same grouping of markets at current exchange rates.

The Angry Birds Movie isn’t even out yet in North-America or in much of Asia, but it’s already a hit in territories across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and South America. This week the animation launches in the United States, China and South Korea.

Budgeted at 75 million euros, the movie is the most expensive release ever made in Finland’s movie history.
