Swiss charter flights head for Lapland

The Swiss have plenty of winter sports opportunities at home, but Lapland has other things, too. Like the incredible night sky.

Swiss travel company Hotelplan has announced it will begin charter flights to Kuusamo in Finnish Lapland next year.

Kuusamo is the third direct destination for Swiss travellers in Finnish Lapland, and during the busiest season the connections from Switzerland cover almost all of Lapland.

Other companies that operate charter flights to Lapland throughout the winter season are TUI Crystal from the UK and TUI Holland and Voight from the Netherlands. Some charter planes arrive from Belgium and Spain, too.

Hotelplan will commence the flights in January 2018 and continue until March.

According to Mats Lindfors, CEO of Ruka-Kuusamo Tourist Association, the new connection is expected to increase the number of overnight stays by Swiss tourists significantly, as in the past only a relatively small number of Swiss tourists have made their way to Lapland.
