American film production company Tapestry Films has purchased the rights to Finnish crime writer Marko Kilpi’s novel Elävien kirjoihin.

The production company Tapestry Films mainly focusses on drama films and had its biggest success with the 2000 film Pay it Forward, starring Kevin Spacey, Helen Hunt and Haley Joel Osment.

The news was reported by Helsingin Sanomat.

Kilpi told the newspaper that the producers were especially interested in the story of the character Pikke, who had a baby in prison and was eventually freed.

“It’s a classic story of survival and is not tied to a specific time or place. They also felt the characters were believable,” he said.

The Finnish film 8-ball (8-pallo), released in 2013 and directed by Aku Louhimies, was also based on the book.
