Finnish chemicals company Kemira is making a multi-million-euro investment in expanding the production line of sizing agent (ASA) at its Nanjing site in China.

ASA helps improve water-resistance in middle to high end paper and in packaging board. The move is set to strengthen Kemira’s position as the leading producer and supplier of such in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) market.

“Integration of additional capacity is expected to be smooth as the production technology is well proven over the past three years at our Nanjing site,” says Hanspeter Enzmann, Kemira’s head of manufacturing, APAC. “It is safe, reliable and robust. In addition, we are already preparing for the next generation ASA-technology to further increase performance and sustainability to our sizing customers.”

The site’s new capacity at Nanjing Chemical Industry Park, Jiangsu Province, is expected to be available from December 2017 onwards. It provides a wide range of functional and process chemicals for water-intensive industries such as the pulp and paper industry, with a total estimated annual capacity of approximately 100 000 tonnes.
