The first Moomin theme park outside Finland will open in Japan at Lake Miyazawa in 2017.

Fin Tech Global Incorporated will open a gateway to the world of the Moomins, highly popular characters in their homeland of Finland as well as Japan, with a theme park built over an expansive area around Lake Miyazawa in the city of Hanno, one hour train ride from Tokyo.

The theme park will comprise two zones: the Moomin Zone will offer attractions that enable visitors to enjoy the storybook world of the Moomins and the Public Zone will be maintained as a public park that everyone can visit on a routine basis at no cost.

The park will be built by a corporation named Moomin Monogatari, which is owned by Fin Tech Global and Finnish manufacturer of playground equipment and outdoor furniture, Puuha Group.

The land area for the park area will be sold to Fin Tech Global by the current owner of the property, Seibu Railway.
