The results of the 2015 International Student Satisfaction Awards have been announced, with Finnish higher education institutes coming second.

A total of 17 000 international students weighed in with their opinions regarding their experiences across Europe. Together they ranked Tampere University of Technology, the University of Helsinki, the University of Jyväskylä and the University of Oulu as Finland’s best for completing an exchange programme.

Northern European universities as a whole were appreciated for their well-organised student services and high levels of academic requirements. Students also appreciated the extreme weather conditions found up north, yet found the cost of living to be less than preferable.

Altogether 86 per cent of international students are satisfied with their time spent studying abroad. Their experiences were tallied up after being added to the student experience website STeXX.eu during the 2014–2015 academic year.

Ireland topped the list overall, with Sweden and Denmark in third and fourth place respectively.
