According to The Union of International Associations (UIA) statistics, Helsinki is now the most popular city for international association meetings in the Nordic region.

The latest statistics cover congress events held in 2016. Last year, 286 international association meetings attended by almost 61 000 visitors were held in Helsinki. These events generated almost 115 million euros in tourism income.

Helsinki was listed as the most popular congress city in the Nordic region and the 10th most popular in Europe. In the overall list, Helsinki is placed 15th.

“International association meetings are an important source of income for Helsinki,” says Ines Antti-Poika, convention director at Helsinki Marketing. “According to a delegate survey commissioned by the Finland Convention Bureau in 2016, individual congress delegates spend an average of 1 750 euros during their stay in Helsinki.”

On top of tourism money, international association meetings serve as the basis for important interactions and events.
