Helsinki has featured on Conde Nast Traveler’s list of Top 15 places to go in 2015.

The city placed ninth in the list, which also featured Cape Town, South Africa; Berlin, Germany and Guangzhou, China.

“Helsinki always gets outshined by Scandinavian siblings Stockholm and Copenhagen, but the Finnish capital is an underrated and more reasonably priced joy,” says the report.

“From the gorgeous Helsinki Cathedral to the Rock Church and the Seurasaari Open-Air Museum, there’s no shortage of striking design.”

The report suggests starting the day with Karelian rye pastries stuffed with hearty rice pudding and ending it with a gin-and-grapefruit-soda cocktail invented specifically for the 1952 Summer Olympics.

Helsinki has enjoyed a highly successful 2014. At the beginning of the year, Helsinki was ranked fifth in TripAdvisor’s user survey on the best tourist cities in Europe, second on the Financial Times’ European Cities of the Future list and tenth in the European Smart Cities comparison.

In June, Helsinki was fifth on Monocle’s list of most liveable cities and in August, Helsinki reached eighth place in the Economist Intelligence Unit’s corresponding study.
