According to a new index, Helsinki’s mobile Internet speed, size of potential mobile-based market, access to accelerators and availability of early-stage assistance are the best in Europe.

Produced as part of the European Digital Forum, the European Digital City Index 2015 outlines how well different cities across Europe support digital entrepreneurs. Helsinki was ranked fourth overall out of 35 cities.

Each city was assessed across 10 themes, including Access to Capital, Entrepreneurial Culture, Skills, Business Environment and Digital Infrastructure.

Aside from companies such as Supercell and Rovio pushing local game development into the global spotlight, other significant startup sectors in Helsinki include software and digital services, health tech and environmental, and energy technologies and services.

According to Startup Hubs Europe, more than 250 startups in Helsinki have together raised some 540.8 million euros in funding over the past decade.

Elsewhere on the index, London, Amsterdam and Stockholm took the top three positions.
