Gasum becomes the biggest in the Nordics
Gasum has purchased all the shares of Swedish Biogas International. The acquisition makes Gasum the biggest producer of biogas in the Nordic countries.
The company’s goal is to develop the Nordic gas ecosystem. With investments and acquisitions, Gasum is gaining access to biogas in areas outside the gas pipeline network, increasing waste treatment capacity and developing regional gas solutions.
Gasum is a leading processor of biodegradable waste and supplier of biogas in Finland. The transaction is the first for its biogas business outside Finland.
The biogas plants of Swedish Biogas International use side streams generated in agricultural and food industry processes. This biogas is primarily used as a vehicle fuel.
Johanna Lamminen, Gasum CEO, explains that the company’s vision is “leading the Nordic gas ecosystem”.
“The utilisation of biogas as a road fuel has progressed very far in Sweden, and we can now introduce these lessons learned in Finland,” Lamminen says. “In return we can make a positive contribution in Sweden thanks to our competence and expertise in the industrial use of natural energy gases.”
