Finland has been named one of the “Best Places To Go In 2016” by American magazine Forbes.

Highlighting the country’s almost 188 000 lakes, pure water and “enchanting remoteness”, the magazine suggests that visiting Finland should not merely be confined to the chilly depths of winter.

The recommendation comes from the cofounder of travel company Black Tomato, Tom Marchant, who listed seven destinations worldwide to consider in the coming year.

Marchant sees Finland as “a beautiful and alluring alternative to Europe’s tourist hordes” in the summer. He singles out the archipelago located to the southeast of the mainland in particular. Bathed in a “gorgeous light”, the region offers visitors a plethora of boating and cycling opportunities during the warmer months.
