Finland has placed third in the KidsRights Index 2020, a study assessing how children’s rights are respected worldwide and how committed countries are to improving them.

The index surveyed 182 countries on whether children have the right to life, health, education and protection, along with how enabling an environment they provide for children’s rights. Finland fared best in the area of right to education.

Iceland took the top spot in this year’s index, followed by Switzerland. At the other end of the scale, Chad, Afghanistan and Sierra Leone were the last three on the list.

The index is produced annually by the KidsRights Foundation in co-operation with Erasmus University Rotterdam: Erasmus School of Economics and the International Institute of Social Studies.
