Europe’s biggest wooden apartment block to be built in Finland
The Europe’s largest wooden apartment building will be constructed in Finland next year. The Finnish construction company Rakennusliike Roponen is building the apartment block for the 2015 Housing Fair in Vantaa.
The wooden building will be seven stories high with 181 apartments and a total living space of about 10 100 square meters. The architect behind the building is Arkkitehtitoimisto Vuorelma Arkkitehdit.
“This wooden apartment building project will also act as a test construction project, in order to develop research of designing wood structure systems and building physical behaviour,” says Mika Airaksela, CEO at Rakennusliike Reponen.
Because of the advanced technology to process and build the structure, the project is considered to be a forerunner for the development of wood construction in Finland.
