There’s been no shortage of podium-hopping for Finland this year. Okay, well, sports fans among us may realise I’m perhaps not referring to the recent Rio Summer Olympics. But, in other arenas around the world, Finland continues to punch well above its weight.
More specifically, this Nordic nation has been a prominent feature of the various global reports and indices surveying societal aspects each year.
Take these for example: Finland has been named the best place in the world to live for expat families, along with being the globe’s least fragile country and its most socially progressive to boot.
Let’s not forget about being most effective at maximising and leveraging its human capital potential, whilst enjoying the world’s greatest press freedom and literacy rates. Here too exists the highest labour-force participation of women globally, and the largest share of women to have completed higher education compared with men.
Meanwhile, Finland has also been deemed to be the world’s greenest country and has the best array of economic and trade policies that support innovation.
Unsurprisingly – given the chilly climate in these parts – this is quite literally the tip of the iceberg. Just below the surface resides numerous top 10 finishes.
Nonetheless, at the risk of sounding overzealous, I’ll leave it for you to discover more of these for yourself.
Given the global dash for dismal news these days, with headlines stuffed with suffering, misadventure and malice, it certainly can’t hurt to share something positive from time to time.
This is our goal at Good News from Finland.
So, if you are looking for more impressive results from Finland in future, stay tuned – no doubt there’ll be much more where these came from.
