Finland and India step up synergy in two sectors
Finland and India have signed memorandums of understanding (MOU) on co-operation in cyber security and the peaceful use of outer space.
The two MOUs were signed during a meeting between permanent state secretary Matti Anttonen and India’s Minister of State for External Affairs Vijay Kumar Singh on 10 January.
The closer collaboration in cyber security aims to improve exchange of information between the National Cyber Security Centre of the Transport and Communications Agency of Finland (TrafiCom) and the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), and improve their capacity to prevent and resolve cyber security incidents.
Space co-operation between the two countries is based on India’s ability to offer cost-effective launches of small satellites to Finland, where organisations are increasingly interested in building their own satellite systems.
Three Finnish satellites have so far been launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) in India: the Aalto-1 satellite of the Aalto University, the ICEYE-X1 satellite built by ICEYE and, most recently, Reaktor Space Lab’s Hello World satellite.
The parties responsible for the MOU on space use are the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment of Finland and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
