VTT and Streamr develop anti-theft sticker

VTT and Streamr’s anti-theft tag is based on a smart contract between the owner of the goods and the transport company, which maps out the terms and conditions of the transportation, as well as storage and the fee.

Possible applications could be electronics, jewellery, and caviar, and the tag comes equipped with smart sensors that identify issues such as location, acceleration and temperature.

Only if the terms are violated will the owner of the goods have access to accurate transport information. Otherwise the data remains encrypted or managed by a third party, such as Streamr.

“In the future, there will be more demand for online applications of this kind, which ease everyday life based on decentralised technology and smart contracts,” saysVisa Vallivaara, research scientist at VTT. “Similar systems have already been tested for the needs of the healthcare sector.”

The product concept was developed as part of the ‘Towards Digital Paradise’ project funded by Tekes (now Business Finland), and it is based on Tekes’s major strategic research breakthrough, The Naked Approach, which explores solutions for a future hyper-connected society.

The anti-theft sticker is expected to be ready this autumn.
