Sarokal boosts Siemens’s 5G aspirations
Finnish company Sarokal Test Systems, specialised in innovative test solutions for fronthaul networks, is to be acquired by technology giant Siemens.
Sarokal Test Systems products are used by chipset vendors, fronthaul equipment manufacturers and telecom operators, to develop, test and verify their 4G and 5G network devices throughout the development cycle.
With the acquisition, Siemens looks to strengthen its integrated circuit (IC) business area. Sarokal’s technology will also be integrated into the Veloce emulation platform secured by Siemens through the purchase of US-based electronic design automation company Mentor Graphics.
“Becoming part of Siemens and integrating our technology into the Veloce emulation platform will give us greater visibility into early customer adoption of 5G, which can help us maintain our leadership as this segment is forecasted to grow rapidly,” commentsHarri Valasma, CEO of Sarokal Test Systems.
By combining Salokar’s technology and the Veloce emulator, Siemens expects to offer its customer a “unique advantage”, as it enables them to validate 4G and 5G designs during both pre- and post-silicon testing.
The transaction is still subject to regulatory approvals, but is expected to close in the first quarter of 2018.
