Finnish industrial giant Outokumpu has won a stainless steel rebar order for the Rodanthe bridge project in North Carolina, US.

Outokumpu will supply the bridge project with more than 2 500 metric tons of domestic stainless steel rebar, its biggest order for domestically made rebar in the US to date.

The contract is with Harris Rebar, and deliveries are set to commence in the second quarter of this year and continue through 2020.

“We are excited to have been awarded this project and we are fully committed in working closely with Harris Rebar to ensure that we meet the quality, time and delivery requirements set by the Department of Transportation in North Carolina,” says Bob Beatty, head of Outokumpu Stainless Bar, in a release. “Stainless steel is the ideal material for infrastructure projects such as the Rodanthe Bridge due to its high corrosion resistance and low life-cycle costs.”

The Rodanthe Bridge is planned to become operational in 2020, after which it will provide reliable passage for travellers and better traffic flows among Outer Banks’ communities, beaches and protected areas.
