Nokian Tyres rolls on with test centre in Spain
Finnish tyre manufacturer Nokian Tyres has started the construction of a testing and technology centre in Santa Cruz de la Zarza, Spain.
The first test tracks of the new technology centre will be completed next year, and it is expected to be fully operational in 2020.
Nokian Tyres currently has two testing centres, one in Nokia and the other in Ivalo, Finland, and the third centre in the warmer Spanish climate will allow for year-round testing of its summer, all-season, and winter tyres.
“We have been planning the new centre for a long time in co-operation with the local authorities and other partners,” saysHille Korhonen, president and CEO of Nokian Tyres. “Now is the time to take the next step and start building a technology centre for the future that offers versatile opportunities for accelerating product development and growing our product range.”
The centre will employ around 200 people during its construction and up to 40 people once finished.
“Nokian Tyres investing in Castile-La Mancha is an important project for us too, creating new jobs and growth opportunities for the region,” comments President of Castile-La Mancha, Emiliano García-Page. “We believe it will have a positive impact on local business here in the heart of Spain.”
