Mightifier helps build positive culture in US schools

Mightifier was co-created by Finnish teachers, school leaders and students to teach empathy, collaboration and other social skills to students, as well as to combat social isolation in schools.

The programme is now part of Sunburst’s nationwide SafeSchools initiative in the US, which supports school safety and social emotional learning programmes to promote more positive, healthy and secure school communities.

“Research has shown us that children with a strong sense of belonging at school perform better and are more satisfied with life,” says Mervi Pänkäläinen, founder and CEO of Mightifier, in a release. “We created Mightifier together with Finnish educators to combat harmful social isolation, while identifying at-risk students and mitigating future potential behavioural or school safety issues.”

The Mightifier programme has been shown to enhance the social skills of students, decrease bullying and improve classroom atmospheres, as reported by educators who’ve used Mightifier.

“Positive school culture has a big role in teaching broad-based competencies, including life skills,” Finland’s Minister of Education Sanni Grahn-Laasonen comments during an official visit to the US. “Schools [in Finland] emphasise students’ wellbeing and we also take bullying very seriously.”
