Finnish MariaDB Corporation, the creator of the fastest growing open source database, is adding to its deep analytics expertise by acquiring Bulgarian company MammothDB.

MariaDB is expanding its presence in Europe with a new office in Bulgaria’s capital city Sofia, after acquiring MammothDB for an undisclosed sum.

The pool of engineering talent coming in with the acquisition will also strengthen MariaDB’s deep analytics expertise and enhance its modern analytics solution MariaDB AX.

“Over the past year, we’ve seen a major increase in demand for MariaDB AX as organisations seek to fill an open source analytics gap left by proprietary offerings such as Oracle and Teradata,” says Michael Howard, CEO of MariaDB Corporation. “The addition of MammothDB’s deep analytics expertise will be invaluable to helping MariaDB meet this growing need and continue to innovate our analytic products.”

The acquisition of MammothDB comes on the heels of some serious momentum obtained by MariaDB, which reeled in investments totalling in excess of 40 million euros in 2017.
