Five Finnish firms make headlines globally

First cab off the rank is Wärtsilä, which has developed a new shuttle tanker concept with the world-leading provider of shuttle tanker solutions, TEEKAY. Making use of the latest Wärtsilä technology, CO2 emissions of these ‘next generation’ vessels will be significantly reduced compared to conventional shuttle tankers. Four of the vessels have already been ordered and will be built at the Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) yard in South Korea.

Over in South America, the Finnish company has also signed an MoU with Petrocity for the development of a harbour tug design for a new port facility being built in São Mateus-ES, Brazil. Due to extremely strict environmental demands at the port, Wärtsilä will base the design on its recently launched Wärtsilä HYTug.

Also in the region, Finnish label manufacturer UPM Raflatac is expanding its presence in Chile and surrounding countries, thanks to a new labelstock slitting and distribution terminal in Santiago.

Meanwhile, in Portugal, Valmet has equipped the cooking plant at The Navigator Company’s pulp mill in Figueira da Foz with a large volume chip storing system that has improved the chip feeding at the plant.

KONE is supplying 23 elevators for the WOW Hotel and Hotel Apartments development at Dubai’s Business Bay. The order includes 16 KONE MiniSpace elevators and 7 KONE MonoSpace elevators, as well as two loading bay area elevators and three disabled access platform elevators.

Finally, in Malaysia, Pöyry has been awarded an owner’s engineer services assignment for a 29 MW solar PV power plant project in Kedah, from project company Leader Solar Energy.
