Finnish war and hitchhikers screen in the UK
The hitchhiking documentary film #TAKEMEANYWHERE has premiered at the Manchester Film Festival, while Finnish war film Unknown Soldier continues to fill cinemas, most recently in Scotland.
The documentary film #TAKEMEANYWHERE , produced by the Finnish Institute in London and Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art, follows the month-long hitchhiking trip (and art work) of Nastja Säde Rönkkö,Luke Turner andShiaLaBeouf across North America.
In mid-2016 the LaBeouf, Rönkkö & Turner trio posted their coordinates online each day and waited for a ride to pick them up and literally take them anywhere. The film is now available for public viewing and received its premiere at the Manchester Film Festival on 2 March.
Meanwhile, the Finnish war film Unknown Soldier also screened in the UK over the weekend, shown before a packed audience on Sunday at the Glasgow Film Festival.
The film was very well received according to actors HannesSuominen, Jussi Vatanen,Arttu Kapulainen and Juho Milonoff who were in Glasgow to answer questions about the film.
“There was a good atmosphere during the screening,” Suominen comments. “There were fits of laughter from the audience, and the atmosphere was very concentrated. That left a good feeling.”
Aki Louhimies’s war epic has made Finnish film history with more than one million attendees and counting. The UK distribution of the film is supported by the Finnish Institute in London.
