Finnish startups win WWF’s Climate Solver Awards
Three Finnish cleantech startups, Norsepower, Fourdeg, and Parking Energy, have been awarded the annual Climate Solver Nordic Award by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).
It’s the first time Finnish companies won most of the awards that recognise Nordic innovations that have the potential to dramatically reduce CO2 emissions or increase access to energy around the world.
Finnish cleantech company Norsepower was recognised for its wind-assisted propulsion technology that significantly reduces the fuel consumption of large ships, Fourdeg for its automated heating system that saves energy in buildings, and Parking Energy for its electric-car charging solution.
The other two winners were Swedish company Altered, for its water-saving nozzle that decreases the water usage of ordinary taps by 98 per cent, and Againity, for its innovation that turns waste and biomass into low-grade heat and ultimately electricity.
The WWF estimates that these five Finnish and Swedish cleantech innovations have the potential to reduce global CO2 emissions by 100 million tonnes annually over the next 10 years, which is almost equal to the combined CO2 emissions of Finland and Sweden.

The Climate Solver Nordic Awards will be presented on 22 May by the Nordic ministers of energy, when the world’s clean energy influencers gather in Malmö, Sweden, for the Nordic Clean Energy summit and top meetings on the subject.
