Tribeflame, a Turku-based tablet game developer, is the second domestic game studio to be snapped up by Animoca Brands since mid-2016.

Tribeflame has published more than a dozen titles since its foundation in 2009, including three that have topped charts on Google Play and the App Store. Its casual game franchise, Benji Bananas, has racked up over 100 million downloads, has 1.5 million active monthly users and has generated some 2.25 million euros in revenues since its launch in 2013.

The acquisition has been completed and was worth up to 350 000 euros.

This is not the first time domestic gaming expertise has caught the attention of Animoca Brands. The Hong Kong-based developer and publisher of branded games took over TicBits, which also hails from Turku, in July, 2016.

Animoca Brands revealed last week that it will seek to improve its development capacity in Finland by having the two game studios operate out of the same premises. The aim, it added, is to specifically accelerate the development of its latest tower defence and collectible card game, Crazy Defense Heroes.
