Finnish industry at full throttle worldwide

First to Wärtsilä, which will provide the largest ever high-speed catamaran with a fully integrated scope of supply, including four engines, four waterjets, and an LNG storage and supply system. The 125-metre-long, LNG-powered ferry will have a top speed of over 40 knots and a capacity for 1 200 passengers and 500 cars. The vessel is being built for Spanish ferry operator Baleària at the Armon Gijón shipyard in Spain.

Wärtsilä has also won contracts to build two 40MW solar-power farms in Kenya. One of the projects is located in Kesses, northwest of the country’s capital Nairobi, and owned by Alten Renewable Energy Developments. The other project is planned for the coastal Lamu region, with Wärtsilä having an option to take an up to 19.9 per cent stake in the farm, according toGeorge Oywer, business development manager at Wärtsilä Eastern Africa.

Then on to Valmet, which has expanded operations at its service centre in Sorocaba, Brazil, with a new spreader roll service workshop ready to serve pulp, paper, board and tissue industry customers. The new service extension increases the service intervals of its customers’ spreader rolls and cuts their overall maintenance costs.

Next in line is Neste, which is joining forces with Swiss-based speciality chemicals company Clariant to develop sustainable material solutions for a range of industries, such as furniture, sporting goods, hygiene products, electronics and automotives.

Onwards to Outotec, which will design a copper smelter to be located at Benete Bay in Sumbawa, Indonesia, for Amman Mineral Industri, a subsidiary of copper and gold producer PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara. The contract is worth approximately 10 million euros.

Next up is YIT, which is constructing its eighth apartment building in the Finskiy development in the city of Shchyolkovo, northeast of Moscow. The new 16-storey building will have a total floor area of 13 500 square metres and house 300 apartments of various sizes. The contract is worth nearly 12 million euros.

Finally to KONE, which is modernising the elevators of the 41-level office tower at 385 Bourke Street in Melbourne, Australia’s central business district, with its latest technology and solutions.
