Finnish firms win orders and innovate worldwide

First to Nokia, which will deploy a private LTE network for Brazilian power distributor Elektro to increase the reliability and efficiency of the electrical grid in the city of Atibaia and surrounding areas, in the state of Sao Paulo. Nokia’s wireless 4G network is the first LTE network in South America to be deployed in the 3.5 gigahertz (GHz) frequency band and will help provide more reliable power and money savings for more than 75 000 homes and businesses.

Then onto KONE, which has won an order to provide a total of 59 elevators for the New Aalborg University Hospital (NAU) in northern Denmark. Categorised as a “super hospital” in Danish terms, the ultramodern complex will occupy 170 000 square metres and will serve as the centre of North Denmark Region’s healthcare system.

Finally to Wärtsilä, which has opened its Acceleration Centre in Singapore that invites industry, academia and local partners to innovate and collaborate to develop Singapore’s maritime ecosystem. The first collaborative project to be created at the centre is Wärtsilä IntelliTug, an autonomous harbour tug to be developed in co-operation with the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and PSA Marine.

As part of the centre in Singapore, the Finnish technology group has also opened a Maritime Cyber Centre of Excellence to address cyber security challenges in the maritime industry. Founded together with Wärtsilä’s strategic partner in cyber security, Templar Executives, the cyber security centre includes a maritime cyber emergency response team and a cyber academy.
