Finnish firms energetic worldwide
Finnish companies Nokia, Neste, Vaisala, Outotec, Fortum and Wärtsilä are engaged in energy projects and collaborations around the world.
First up is Nokia, whose cloud technology and networking company Nuage Networks has formed a technology partnership with French hybrid network service provider e-Qual. Nuage Networks’ technology will enable e-Qual to support its enterprise customers around the world to shift their operations to the cloud.
Nokia is also collaborating with Sudatel to enhance mobile and residential broadband performance in Sudan. The two companies will trial 4.5G Pro, 4.9G and 5G mobile technologies, as well as Nokia’s fixed fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) portfolio. The initial focus will be on Sudan’s capital Khartoum.
Next in line is Neste, which is supporting the fossil-fuel-free Elfwegentocht event in the Friesland province of the Netherlands with its renewable diesel. The Dutch province will be the first to offer 100-per-cent renewable diesel at local fuel stations.
Then on to Vaisala, which is collaborating with ICE Gateway on smart city infrastructure in Prague, the Czech Republic. Vaisala is providing air quality sensors that can be installed to ICE Gateway’s smart street lights. The solutions provide useful data for services such as outdoor lighting, traffic, parking, tourism and security.
Next up is Outotec, which will deliver technology for Indonesian tin-mining company PT TIMAH’s new tin smelter in Muntok, Indonesia. An order of this type is typically valued at over 10 million euros.
Then on to Fortum, which has been awarded a contract to build a 250MW solar power plant for Karnataka Renewable Energy Development. The plant is expected to be commissioned in the third quarter of 2019 and will be located in the Pavagada solar park in Tumkur District, an administrative district in the state of Karnataka, India.
Finally to Wärtsilä, which is delivering the generating equipment for a new 145MW gas-fired power plant that will ease the electricity shortage in Myanmar. The delivery will be fast-tracked with the plant expected to be operational in the first quarter of 2019. The order was made by China-based SEPCOIII Electric Power Construction.
