Finnish education heads to the Maldives

The agreement was signed by EduCluster Finland and Educonnect during a special function held at Hotel Jen in the Maldives capital Malé.

It will see two Finland International Schools established in the Maldives, a popular tourist destination in the Indian Ocean and home to an estimated 430 000 Maldive Islanders. The first school will open in Malé in 2019, and a second one is set to open its doors in the nearby Hulhumale island in 2020.

“We believe everyone deserves the right to the best education possible and future – that is why we share Finnish education expertise with the rest of the world,” noted EduCluster Finland’s unit director Riikka Hassi during the event in Malé. “EduCluster’s approach takes the Finland education concept and reinvents it keeping the local contexts and cultures in mind.”

EduCluster Finland’s new schools in the Maldives will be its first in Asia. The Finnish education export company is owned by the University of Jyväskylä and currently operates the Quatar-Finland International School in Doha and is about to open another school in Oman come September.
