Finnish drama wins big at TorinoFilmLab

The Finnish film was awarded the prestigious TFL Production Award worth 40 000 euros at the TFL’s Meeting Event that took place as part of the Torino Film Festival.

On top of that, The Woodcutter Story also won the Amsterdam Post Lab Award, which offers the film’s producer Emilia Haukka from Aamu Film Company the opportunity to participate in the Amsterdam Post Lab post-production workshop. The award includes two 7 500-euro grants to be spent on post-production services at the Filmmore facilities and in the Warnier-Posta sound studio.

The Woodcutter Story‘s director and writer Myllylahti tweeted his gratitudes after the event: “What a weekend in Torino! Thank you so much TorinoFilmLab and the jury for supporting The Woodcutter Story.”

Myllylahti is a Finnish author and director whose short films have featured in several film festivals. He was also the screenwriter for the critically acclaimed Finnish film The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki, which won numerous awards including the Prix Un Certain Regard at Cannes 2016 and was the Finnish entry to the Oscars.

The TorinoFilmLab is an international laboratory that supports emerging talent in film and culminates in the TFL’s Meeting Event, where all the projects developed through the year are presented. Its international jury was headed by Cameron Bailey, co-head of the Toronto International Film Festival.
