Finnish doc starts global festival run in style
Finnish documentary Entrepreneur (Yrittäjä) will premiere in North America at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival in May.
Hot Docs is the largest film festival focused on documentaries on the entire continent, boasting an annual attendance of over 200 000 and a festival programme of over 200 titles. Directed by Virpi Suutari and produced by Oktober, Entrepreneur will be screened as part of a series bringing together the best documentary films of the past year from around the world.
“Hot Docs is undeniably the most important film festival for documentaries in North America,” comments Joonas Berghäll, the owner of Oktober, in a release.
“Making our North American premiere as part of their programme is an honour,” he adds.
Entrepreneur is a comedic and endearing portrait of entrepreneurial ethos and enthusiasm in contemporary Finland. It turns the camera not only on dead zones where the desire to live and work remains strong, but also on modern-day entrepreneurs who are quick to embrace new technologies and global operating models.
The documentary had its world premiere at the Göteborg Film Festival in February.
