Finland and China tackle medical AI together
Finland and China are joining forces to study the usefulness of artificial intelligence and machine learning in the medical sector.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish a Sino-Finnish Medical AI Research Centre in Chengdu, China, was signed on 16 January. The ceremony was attended by Chinese representatives and Finland’s ambassador in China.
The medical research centre will be built together by Eastern Finland’s primary hospital Eksote, Finnish data management company Avaintec and the Sichuan Provincial People’s Hospital.
The centre will research and develop artificial and machine learning technology aimed at improving diagnosis, treatment and prevention. The ultimate goal is the implementation of comprehensive cross-platform solutions in the medical and healthcare sector.
Finland and China have deepened collaboration in the past year. This has lead to increased exports and investments between the countries, and culminated in a state visit to Finland by Chinese President Xi Jinping.
